Our family farm is located in Southern Iowa, Appanoose County, near
Lake Rathbun. Our address is Moulton with the farm
approximately 5 1/2 miles east of Centerville. We have lived
in this area since 1986. Marlan is a native of Eastern Iowa
and Brenda was reared in Northern Kentucky. When looking for a
place to raise beef cattle, the Southern Iowa area seemed like a
natural area to pick because of its diversification of rolling
hills, trees, ponds, pastureland and cropland.
The entire family is involved in the farming and livestock
operation. Circle K Cattle Company began in June 1986 with
Marlan and Brenda
Korthaus, 350 acres, 6 cows and a stock dog. |
The family increased with the births of Jody and Cody. We
purchased more land that now totals 940 acres. On the land we
raise our own corn to feed the cattle, soybeans for cash flow, oats
to feed and for bedding, hay and have around 200 mother cows.
The cows are registered shorthorn, appendix shorthorn (with a black
base), and also black commercial cows we use shorthorn bulls on.
All calves produced are born on our farm and finished out on our
strict management and feeding programs. We have been locally
marketing our beef to consumers for freezer beef and are now
expanding our offering online.
Our animals are fed feed raised
on our farm to attain a very high quality grade, then harvested at a
custom locker, state inspected, or federally inspected locker plant,
aged, packaged and sharp frozen to await pickup or delivery to you.
Jody and Cody are 4-H and FFA members and show their own cattle at
the county fair, IJBBA Shows, Iowa Jr. Shorthorn Show, State Fair,
and the National Jr. Shorthorn shows. These shows are
considered our family vacations and together time where we work as a
team to achieve our goals and have fun as a family doing it.
We also have a local production sale in Roca, Nebraska called
Highlights of the Heartland Sale in September and also sell breeding
stock at consignment sales such as the Iowa Beef Expo, Nebraska
Cattlemens, Missouri Shorthorn Sale, and National Polled Congress. |
